After your endodontic treatment, it’s common for the tooth and surrounding gum area to feel slightly tender for a few days due to the treatment process and the initial condition of your tooth. This mild tenderness is expected and should not be a cause for concern. To ensure proper healing, avoid chewing food on the side of the treated tooth until the endodontic therapy is fully completed and the tooth has been protected with a restoration by your restorative dentist.
Continue with your usual dental hygiene practices, but be gentle around the treated area to avoid irritation. If you experience discomfort, it can often be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen (Advil), aspirin, or acetaminophen (Tylenol), following the directions on the packaging.
Please note, consuming alcohol is not recommended while taking any of these medications. If you find that your discomfort is not manageable with these medications, or if you notice any swelling, contact our office immediately for guidance.
